Visual Ethnography

Visual Ethnography is a peer-reviewed international journal dedicated to the study of images, audio-visual media, and visual practices in socio-cultural life. It explores the production, circulation, interpretation, and use of visual and audio-visual forms across a broad range of anthropological and interdisciplinary fields, including visual and media anthropology, digital and visual cultures, contemporary art, anthropology of art, photography and film, museography, the anthropology of the senses, cultural studies, and anthropological theory.

The journal welcomes contributions addressing, among other topics, the relationships between vision, gaze, and culture; bodies, places, objects, and material practices; design, architecture, and their anthropological dimensions; as well as the theoretical and methodological implications of working with visual and audio-visual materials in anthropological research.

Visual Ethnography is published twice a year and accepts original research articles in English, Italian, French, and Spanish. The journal is published exclusively online and is indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. It is also recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MIUR) as a Classe A journal in the disciplinary area 11/A5 – Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology.
