This article presents a collaborative curatorial project carried out with the community of La Pila, Ecuador, renowned for its tradition in crafting pre-Hispanic pottery replicas. These artisanal practices, historically stigmatized due to their association with the trafficking of cultural goods, represent a form of appropriation of the past that challenges dominant heritage frameworks and nationalist discourses. From my dual role as an artist and anthropologist, I interpret the replica as a space of tension and as both a political and epistemological strategy. By questioning institutional collecting practices, this approach values artisanal experiences and knowledge. The article focuses on the update of the Museo Histórico y Artesanal La Pila, conceived as a collective creation process that explores the relationships between the community and archaeological heritage through the memories of the craft. Using a methodology that combines ethnographic research with contemporary artistic practices, I reflect on curatorial practice as a mediatory space and examine the role of images in reconfiguring fieldwork.
